Carl is a former high school teacher who enjoyed his work, but found that it wouldn’t support his family. In 1979, he became a petroleum landman. This led him to the study of law, and in 1994, at age 37, he began his practice with the San Antonio law firm Cox & Smith. In 2007, he began a solo practice that has now become Carl Werner & Associates. Carl has earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Texas, and a J.D. (with honors) from the University of Houston Law Center. He is Board Certified as a specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law, by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Kristi was drawn to the legal field of estate planning, probate, and trust law during a business law class at Texas Christian University. She earned a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Business from TCU and a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law (cum laude) in 1995. After a one-year clerkship for Chief Justice John Cayce at the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth, she moved to private practice in Fort Worth at a medium-sized, general-practice firm. A change in her husband’s career brought them to San Antonio in 1999, and Kristi worked at the Kleberg Law Firm. She joined Carl Werner & Associates in 2012. She lives in the Stone Oak area with her husband, two daughters, and three cats.
Bob is an attorney with the firm Carl Werner & Associates, specializing in Wills, Estates, Trusts and Probate. A graduate of the University of Denver (B.A., cum laude) and St. Mary’s University School of Law (J.D.), Bob has been licensed to practice law since 2010. Before going into private practice, Bob worked as the Court Investigator for Bexar County Probate Court No. One. He is a Fellow with the Texas Bar Foundation, a member of the San Antonio Estate Planners Council, and a board member of the Deaf Education and Hearing Science Council. Bob lives in San Antonio with his wife Jahannah, their son Owen, their daughter Eva, and their Siamese cats Felix and Rocco.
Karen has been with the firm since its inception in 2007, as administrator and legal assistant, and earned her Professional Paralegal certification from NALS in 2013. Karen has been an active member of the San Antonio Legal Support Association, the San Antonio Paralegal Association, and the Alamo Chapter of the Association of Legal Professionals. A native of San Antonio, Karen and her husband Tom have four grown children, and two amazing granddaughters.
Candice is a graduate of The University of Rochester (B.A. English, 2008) and The University of Texas at San Antonio (B.A. Criminal Justice, 2013). A San Antonio native, Candice has also lived in upstate New York, the Philadelphia suburbs, and New Orleans, before returning home in 2011. She worked at The University of Texas at San Antonio in various capacities for several years, before deciding to pursue a career in the legal field. Candice has worked with the firm since January 2017, and completed the Paralegal Certificate Program at UTSA in April 2018. She lives in San Antonio with her dog, Riley.
